Step 1: Install CloudQuery

Follow the steps below to start syncing data with CloudQuery.

Copy&paste the following command to download

brew install cloudquery/tap/cloudquery

Sign in with CloudQuery

To sign in from the CLI, run the following command.

cloudquery login

A new browser window will open where you will complete the sign-in process.

Auto-generate sync configuration

Run the following command to create a configuration file:

cloudquery init --source github --destination file --spec-path github_to_file.yaml

File FAQ

What file formats can I create from my GitHub data?

At the moment, CloudQuery can create Parquet, line-delimited JSON files and CSV files from your GitHub data and place them into your choice of local storage destination. You can then use these files to manually load your data to other services and applications.

Yes, you can use this integration with a cloud storage solution, but you may find it more efficient to use a CloudQuery integration specifically designed for that environment, take a look at our integrations directory on the CloudQuery Hub to check if your destination is directly supported.

What authentication methods does the CloudQuery GitHub integration support?

The CloudQuery GitHub integration supports two authentication methods and the best option for your sync to File will depend on your personal preferences and your organizational security policy.

The main difference your choice of authentication method will make to your sync from GitHub to File is the rate at which CloudQuery can read and sync data. Personal access tokens have a lower rate limit than app authentication - so if you need to move a particularly large amount of data quickly, we would recommend using app authentication.

Archived repos will only be synced if a specific request is made. To include archived repos in the sync, include_archived_repos must be set to true.
